5.0 Following-up discussions based on ethical theories After discussing ethical dilemmas from individual and corporation aspects, we bring ethical discussions from four major points according to ethical theories introduced in the background section: social duty, consequence, law and culture. 5.1 Social Duty â€Å"Happy Meal†, a specialized meal marketed at children from McDonald’s contains main item such as a hamburger, a side item like french fries, a drink, and most important, a toy. 20% of McDonald s sales is from toys, it has become one of the largest US toy distributors. McDonald’s uses popular characters such as minions or Hello Kitty to attract children to their happy meal. Because of these toys, McDonald’s became the most popular American kid’s restaurant. Some children even ask for Happy Meal only for the toys. Because Happy Meal is the most popular fast food product, McDonald is big extend has a significant relationship with American childhood obesity. Is the Happy Meal ethical or not? According to Kant’s theory, which includes that people have the duty to not physically harm others, McDonald’s behavior is unethical. Because as a fast food company, McDonald’s targets children by using toys and selling them fast food which make children obese and make far-lasting impacts on those children’s dietary habits.
